Duel Request Example

Duel request

Duels are two-minute battles able to be initiated between two players. A player can request to duel another player by clicking on their avatar and clicking the Duel icon. Note that a duel cannot be started if the opposing player has no usable dragons.

Duel requests may be allowed to all players, only to the player's friends, or no one. These toggles may be found under settings in the Menu under "Dueling Requests." Unlike other requests, duel requests have a 10-second expiration time.

Dueling is currently limited to Guild Wars only, however it will be allowed and limited to an arena within the Dragon Inn in the Undercity in the near future.

Dueling[]

Duel Banner

Duel banner

Once a duel is confirmed by the opposing player, there will be a 10-second countdown before the duel starts. A large pole with a banner featuring two swords will be put in place between the two players. The players cannot use items on their dragons or equip a different dragon during a duel. A player will display a sword icon atop their avatar if they become distanced from the other user. If a player moves too far away from where the duel was started, they will be teleported back to the duel starting area.

If a player does not have a dragon equipped when the duel starts, a dragon from their Lair will be randomly selected to be used.

Duels also have five unique titles and are required for one of the tasks during a Guild War. For a duel to count towards a duel-related task, both players must damage each other's dragons at least once.

History[]

Dueling Arena Teaser

Dueling arena

Prior to September 20th, 2021, players could only duel in the arena in Leisure. A player could send a Duel request to any other player in the server, and if the other player confirmed the request, both players would be teleported to the dueling arena. The dragon being ridden by the player would be the one used for when the duel starts. Players could also use weapons to damage each other or their dragons.

Two duel queues were situated in front of the arena and displayed either player's level, dragon, dragon level, and their stake, if any. A duel had a 10-second countdown and lasted 50 seconds and would end when one of the players were killed or if the timer ran out. A player could not leave the dueling arena once a duel was started and could not use items or equip other dragons. The damage dealt to the dueling players or their dragons would be kept after a duel ended.

Stakes[]

Stakes were optional bets that could be set up by either of the dueling players. Either player could put up a maximum of 10,000 coins at stake, which would be awarded to the winning player and taken out of the losing player's coin amount.

If a player put up a stake and won the battle, they would not be charged and would keep their coins.

Trivia[]

  • Dueling was added June 13th, 2020.[1]
    • On September 20th, 2021, dueling was temporarily removed[2] and later re-added as a revamped feature on November 26th, 2021.[3]
  • Players could glitch inside the dueling arena when not dueling with another player or during a dueling match. A player could do this by running or flying into the arena's barrier with a dragon, dismounting once their dragon was half inside, and then pressing Ride.
OnlyTwentyCharacters

OnlyTwentyCharacters bug

  • The Dueling queue could display two users named "OnlyTwentyCharacters" dueling one another, each with a Level 20 Mother Dragon with a blank icon and no stakes.
    • This would usually occur when a duel was not taking place and was likely used as the "default" interface.
  • On December 6th, 2024, dueling was temporarily disabled due to changes in Dragons Adventures' age rating on Roblox.
