Mutations

Mutations icon

Mutations are a breeding mechanic that allow dragons to gain unique physical features.

All dragon species have a total of five unique mutations. Mutations are completely cosmetic and do not apply any advantages or disadvantages.

Obtainment[]

Mutations are rare physical features that may come with a dragon when it is hatched from an egg, claimed from a Dragon Season, obtained from a bundle, or through other non-breeding means.

Breeding multi-mutated dragons together will yield higher chances of getting a multi-mutated dragon as well, as compared to breeding two non-mutated dragons together. Dragons obtained from non-breeding means may only come with up to 3 mutations. A fully-mutated dragon cannot be obtained through natural or breeding means. A dragon will have to be fed at least one Mutation Potion in order to become fully-mutated.

Players can use a Mutation Potion on a dragon to give it one random mutation that it does not already have. Additionally, a player can use a Mutation Cure Potion to remove a random mutation from their selected dragon.

Titles[]

If the player owns 100 unique dragon species with all possible mutations at the same time, they will be rewarded with the Ultimate Dragon Adventurer title.

If the player owns all currently in-game dragon species with all possible mutations at the same time, they will be rewarded with the Supreme Dragon Adventurer title.

Trivia[]

  • Mutations were introduced on Dragon Adventures' release.
  • The current icon for Mutations is a double helix, which references to the structure that DNA has. Additionally, mutations in biology are alterations to the nucleic acid sequence of a genome.
  • Baby dragons do not showcase mutations.
  • The Ovicirus (and the scrapped Rocirus remodel concept) is the only dragon to have "six" mutations. It showcases all six of them in-game, however the Underbelly Fins and Tail Fins are combined into one mutation.
  • Prior to an unknown date in January 2025, mutations had the following chances of being obtained:[1]

Mutations could be given to a dragon through non-breeding means 10% of the time.

The chances for obtaining a dragon through non-breeding means are as follows:

  • 10% (1 in 10) chance for a dragon to be obtained with 1 mutation.
  • 1% (1 in 100) chance for a dragon to be obtained with 2 mutations.
